Springtime in Vermont means pussy willows, maple syrup and MUD

Took a ride on the bike yesterday and brought the camera along.

Mud season in Vermont...also called the 5th season

A closer look at what can swallow up a small car

Pussy willows just beginning to blossom

Took the old bike out for a trip to my brother's sugar house

I remember picking pussy willows at this same patch in the 1960's

Pussy willows up close and personal with a sky blue background

Brother's sugar shack nestled in the woods

The new addition for the fire wood

Sap buckets long the lane

This is where the sap enters to begin the boiling process

The sugar man himself stays busy while the sap boils

Sometimes you can barely see through the sweet smelling steam

Keeping the fire going is a full time job

The sap boils high at the point of entry

The familiar sight of steam rising out through the top of the sugar house

The sugar man uses this dipper to test for readiness

The maple syrup is drawn off before its final preparation

A vintage Vermont maple syrup tin can becomes a decorative display

White Rock Maple...a continued legacy from a long line of sugar men
The finished product...yummmmmmmm!

My boy Henry

Henry the rooster
Digital art created from an original photo of our rooster. His name is Henry. I like the contrast of color between the red and green. Nature provides some rather amazing colors. Henry doesn't like to pose but if you can get him to stand still long enough he is very photogenic.

Nor'easter is a chilling experience here in Vermont

Oh baby, it's cold outside
A big Nor'easter snow storm hit today. Didn't risk going outside with the camera but managed to snap this amazing digital photo of my Houston hubby.

Christmas goodies 2010

My little sister makes some of the best cookies and candies around. These are some samplings from Christmas 2010. Yummy! Sometimes the simplest things make the best subjects for a photograph.

Our local volunteer fire department is a hub of activity

Ever wonder what goes on at your local volunteer fire department? Our Wallingford Volunteer Fire Department (WVFD) is a hub of activity year round. Training is done in all sorts of weather and conditions. It is not an easy job and, if you can, volunteer some time or donate money to help your fire department provide fire coverage to the citizens in your town. Our volunteer fire department is also one of my favorite subjects to photograph. I admire the strength, courage and stamina of these firefighters, young and old, and I'm fascinated with the long tradition of dedication and selflessness these men and women show for their calling.

New firetruck arrives December 6, 2009

No time is wasted and training with the new firetruck begins.
